A Pink & Red Newborn Session

Several newborn parents have recently driven from the Fredericksburg area to my studio in Richmond, VA for a photography session. It has been surprising to see the amount of people that will take that drive for their newborn portraits. It also makes my heart sing. Thank you to each and every one of my clients for trusting me with your sweet, precious, delicate baby. Everyone knows that I have the best job in the world… but it’s all because of you and your babies. Keep them coming!

Sofia is one of the many who’s mom contacted me and drove down from Spotslyvania. Sofia was already two weeks old when her mom inquired with me but I was more than happy to fit them in. If ever you are in doubt, just reach out. I will always do my best to make sure your newborn’s precious details are preserved in photographic documentation. Sofia was hesitant at first to let me unwrap her and pose her on the bean bag so I started with some wrapped shots. Even after getting into a deep sleep she still wasn’t interested in being undressed and posed. With one more feeding in her little belly we decided to give it one more try. I am so glad we did. Some of the last pictures were my absolute favorites.

Sofia’s parents are now putting a gorgeous 16×20 mounted image of her froggy pose on their walls and have 5 digital images to do whatever they would like with. There is no photograph important enough to rush a newborn.

If your baby needs to eat, we stop. If they need to be soothed, we stop. If they need a break, we take one. And if they don’t like a particular pose, we move on.

Because your newborn session isn’t a race to get through a shot list.

Some of the photographs I love most happen because we slowed down. Because baby was comfortable. Because mom needed a minute. Because everyone simply relaxed and let the session unfold.

Beautiful newborn photography and a calm, baby-led experience should go hand in hand.

That’s how I can create both the beautiful classic newborn portraits you imagined and the natural, connection-filled photographs you’ll treasure just as much.

A little clay. A lot of laughter. A few kisses. And all the little in-between moments that happen when two people are completely comfortable with each other.

I want to see your family as you actually are.
Because years from now, I don’t think you’ll miss the perfectly posed photograph nearly as much as you’ll miss the way your little one used to run into your arms, the sound of their laugh, or how tiny they looked holding your hand.
Those are the moments I want to preserve for you.
