Commemorating turning one with first birthday pictures in a must. A Cake Smash is just… well… icing on the cake. Jen Jacobowitz Photography gives you the best of both worlds all in one photography session. I especially love when little one’s, like Jadzia, come back to me for their first birthday pictures after having been a newborn client of mine.

The First Birthday/ Cake Smash photography session typically starts out with casual pictures. I supply all outfits (for both cake smashing and casual pictures) but usually encourage parents to bring at least one outfit that they have and like. Once the fun day arrives I let parents pick through the selections I lay out for them. They can then decide if they even want to use their own outfit.

Jadzia and I laughed and played while getting her ready for her First Birthday pictures. However, she later proved she wasn’t quite keen on sitting in any baskets. But she was soooooo cute. Letting the sweet babies always call the shots around here, we moved on. I always have several different props and set-ups ready to go. Jadzia continued to play and I snapped away.

It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To

As much fun as casual pictures were, Jadzia wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with her cake. NOTHING. That’s just how it goes sometimes. I will still get a few pictures to bear witness of their reaction but I will not continue to make a sweet baby do anything that makes them unhappy. Since I knew we weren’t going to have many cake smashing pictures we regrouped, redressed, and took a few more casual pictures while once again laughing and playing. Here are a few from Jadzia’s photography session.
