Richmond’s Maternity, Newborn & Family Photographer

Let me introduce myself for those that have just found my little corner of the World Wide Web.  I’m Jen, Richmond’s Maternity, Newborn & Family Photographer.  I wanted to give you a deeper look into who it is that you are trusting with your family memories.  I’m Jen.  Last name Jacobowitz…. ja -co-ba-witz.  Before anything else, I am a child of God.  I am a Christian and everything in my life revolves around that precious title that I am so blessed to hold.  I am a mother to Johnathan and Kaleb, wife to Adam.  My favorite activity is napping.  Kidding.  Sort of.  Ok, yeah… it really is napping.  But coming in at a super close second is singing.  I don’t know if I’m any good at it but I love it, nonetheless.  I’m a reddish-brunette currently trying to see if blondes have more fun.  I’d have to say no, but I’m digging my look so I’ll just be over here with sun kissed locks for awhile.

As your family photographer, I spend my days and my dollars coming up with new ways to add a personal touch to your photography session.  I love interior design/decorating and am constantly changing my studio to bring my visions to life.  I’m a sufferer of anxiety learning to relax into a boho lifestyle.  I have a black thumb but LOVE how plants bring a room to life.  You’ll notice, due to my thumb of gardening death, that all the plants in my house and studio are artificial.  True.  Yet they still bring me a sense of calm while invigorating my creativity.

I’ve turned in my mini skirts for wide legged pants or fleece lined leggings with an oversized top.  I love mixing textures in my outfits, sessions, studio and home.  Macrame is my favorite, vintage lace a close second.  I love mixing their quirks with wood, fur or leather… sometimes all three right together.  Your photography session will show this.  I love to style my clients as much as I love to style my studio.

God First, Family Next Best Thing!

Along side God, Him coming first, Johnathan and Kaleb are my world.  The three of them have changed me for the better over the last several years.  They have shaped and molded me into who I am today.  To say I’d be lost without my boys is both true and false.  While much of my identity was wrapped up in being their mother, it’s not all that I am.  I have had to come to very real terms with this as they are on the road to living their {almost} independent lives.

These two guys are my heart.  Nothing has brought me as much happiness and sorrow as being a mother.  I’m learning now that even the mundane moments are magical and I’m trying so desperately to hold onto what time I have with them.  These are the moments that I encourage all of my clients to embrace and let me capture for them as well.  Trust me, you WILL miss them one day.

Adam and I will be empty nesters sooner than we would like.  Having done things a little backwards in the beginning, we never really had time to ourselves.  This new chapter that we will be embarking on soon is long overdue.  It’s never been just the two of us.  I hope we like each other.  LOL!  In all seriousness, I imagine that we will have a chance to grow closer, travel more and live like newlyweds.  My husband’s support is why I am able to do what I do today.  He recognized my passion, saw my potential and backed me when I wanted to use a large chunk of our savings to build out my studio.  He constantly ooh and ahhs over the images I create even after all these years.  He’s my biggest cheerleader even when I want to take my ball and go home.

The Journey

I never thought I’d be a family photographer… or a photographer at all.  There was no growing up with a passion or even an eye for photography.  It was never on my radar.  I had a plethora of interests, none of which I became but all that I use in my daily business operations.  There was interest in interior design and pyschology when I was in high school.  I was drawn to advertising and marketing while in college.  It was not until my children came along that photography entered the realm of possibilities for me.  Even then, it was not instantaneous.  But as they grew, so did my desire to capture every bit of their personality through a camera lens.  And mediocre images just would not suffice.

In my journey through digital scrapbooking I was fortunate to meet a lot of people who would go on to become photographers.  I stared in awe at their pictures.  There was a desire to know how to make mine look like that.  I started asking questions and I googled.  A LOT!  I read and learned, joined forums and attended beginner pop-up classes.  When I was finally at the point where my pictures were starting to be what I wanted them to be, my kids were off living their lives with their friends.  Having your mom tag along with a camera is, apparently, not cool.  Alas, I found other, smaller, subjects around the neighborhood in the form of babies and toddlers.  Thus, the life of Jen Jacobowitz Photography began.  So here I am, Richmond’s Maternity, Newborn & Family Photographer…. now branching into ELOPEMENTS!
