The Engagement | Richmond VA Photographer

Okay, so I admit… this isn’t typically my area of expertise.  Shooting at night… with a flash…. for an engagement.  Yeah, no pressure or anything.  Ha!  Luckily, it was for my cousin and I explained to him that using a flash was not my normal thing.  I told him I would do the best I could and then prayed I didn’t screw it all up.

Nash contacted me about a week prior to proposing asking if I would photograph the whole thing.  His plan was to….. well… it actually doesn’t matter because his plan changed and what he did end up doing was AWESOME (except for the whole photographer being scared of screwing up thing)!  With a ONE day notice Nash contacts me again to tell me of his new plan to propose and what all it entails.  My cousin and I clearly need to sit down and have a little talk about what Christmas season is like for a photographer, how a change of plans (which means totally different day and time) is challenging and frightening, and how to ask… “oh by the way, are you available at that time?”…. Yes, Nash, we need to talk.

I’m kidding.  I’m kidding.  Of course I would be there for my cousin!  In fact, I was very honored to be a small part of the whole thing.  I’m not sure who was more nervous though… me or him.

Thank you, Nash, for trusting me and believing in my abilities to capture your big moment!

So how did he do it?  Well, it was tacky of course.  Ha!  The Tacky Christmas Light Tour, that is.  For those of you that do not know there is this house (actually now it’s 2 houses side by side) that has about a million lawn ornaments lit up covering every visible inch of their yard.  There are lights all the way up the trees… yes to the tippy top, so that you can see them from three streets away.  The house has at least a billion lights all over it and the yard.  Even the roof is decorated…. which is where Nash’s big scene debuted.  You see ol’ Mr. Grinch sat a top the roof, chilling my the chimney.  Nash had the owners make a sign that with a push of the button by Nash down below, would like up to say “Uni, Will You Marry Me” right beside Mr. Grinch.

Here’s what it looked like as it all went down…
